It was recently announced that Rian Johnson (Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Knives Out) directed the teaser trailer for Pokemon Go Fest 2020, which is going virtual for the first time since the game launched in 2016.
The news comes from an official Niantic blog post, which features information on how Go Fest intends to go virtual, as well as details about how Rian Johnson directed the commercial.
“With Pokémon GO Fest 2020 barely three weeks away, we could not be more excited to host this all-new, first-of-its-kind virtual event for Trainers around the world,” wrote Pokemon Go product marketing manager Veronica Saron in the blog post. “The response from the community has been incredible, and we’ve already sold more than 700,000 tickets from more than 110 countries and regions.”

The post also features quotes from Johnson, who discussed his own personal relationship with the illustrious video game series.
“Pokémon GO has kept me engaged with my friends remotely as I’ve been practicing physical distancing these past few months,” he said. “As a longtime Pokémon trainer, it was a real pleasure working with Niantic on this spot.”
“It was a new experience for me to direct a production remotely, and I enjoyed the highly collaborative process and think we put together a fun and upbeat commercial that fans will enjoy.”
Pokemon Go Fest will take place in virtual team lounges later this month, with the event scheduled to transpire across July 25 and July 26.
In related news, it was recently revealed that Pokemon Go would be introducing Mega Evolutions. Meanwhile the next Pokemon Go Community Day will take place shortly before Go Fest 2020, kicking off on July 19. Ghost-type aficionados will be glad to hear that it’s due to feature Gastly.
