Midwinter Entertainment and Improbable have announced that Scavengers, the connected multiplayer shooter, arrives in Early Access on PC on April 28.
The post-apocalyptic survival shooter forces players to work together – and against each other – in order to survive in a harsh, winter world. The developer calls the curious mix of PvP and co-op “co-opetition”.
The game, which takes place in an abandoned, hostile sci-fi world, uses both the environment and hostile AI in order to pressure you into working together with other players – only to turn on them in the blink of an eye when the situation looks more survivable.
If you want to get in on the Early Access launch, you’re going to have to jump through some hoops. The Early Access rollout is being orchestrated in collaboration with Twitch, so you’ll need to try and secure limited-time Twitch Drops during events if you want in ahead of anyone else.
As per a press release, new players can play Scavengers in Early Access by watching Scavengers Twitch streams and following these steps:
- Creating an Improbable game account and linking it with their Twitch account
- Watching 30 minutes of any Scavengers stream
- After you have claimed your Twitch Drop, you’ll receive an email with the Scavengers Steam Key and you can start playing.
“Kicking-off our Early Access with Twitch will give new fans a way to learn about Scavengers from the community,” says Josh Holmes, ex-Halo developer and CEO and co-founder of Midwinter Entertainment.
“Going ‘always-on’ with Early Access means we can significantly expand our ability to tune the game, implement new systems, and take in more feedback from all of our players. This is a major milestone ahead of our full launch later this year.”
The Early Access limited-time Twitch Drops event begins at 12am PST / 3am EST / 8am BST on April 28, though Midwinter has noted it intends to open up Early Access more broadly thereafter.
Scavengers launches for PC in 2021, with consoles coming sometime after.
