That God of War Ragnarok Release Date Found in the PSN Database Is Probably a Placeholder

Twitter user PlayStation Game Size, who is known for extracting data from PlayStation Network servers, has found a release date entry for the highly-anticipated God of War Ragnarok. The game is listed for release on September 30, 2022, and while we understand all the excitement, this looks an awful lot like a placeholder.

We say it’s a placeholder because September 30th is not only the last day of the month, it’s also the end of the third financial quarter. However, this could mean that Sony is eyeing a Q3 2022 release window for Santa Monica Studio’s tentpole. Additionally, September 30th is a Friday and a lot of AAA franchises have recently switched from Tuesday to Friday launches. Nevertheless, it’s unlikely we’re going to get a release date announcement anytime soon.

In development for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, God of War Ragnarok was delayed due to challenges stemming from Covid-19 but Kratos voice actor Christopher Judge took part of the blame. Judge revealed that he had trouble walking in August of 2019, due to which he needed immediate surgery. Santa Monica Studio paused development to give Judge time for rehabilitation.

“To the beloved fandom, Ragnarok was delayed because of me,” Judge tweeted back in September. “August 2019, I couldn’t walk. Had to have back surgery, both hips replaced, and, knee surgery. They waited for me too rehab…”

We’ll inform our readers if there are any updates regarding this “leak.”
