Former Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has spoken to CNET about a range of things including the Metaverse, Augemented Reality and Virtual Reality. Reggie says that he is genuinely excited by the prospect of the Metaverse and is interested to see how it all pans out. He said that he believes that Augmented Reality will be a real selling point and says that he has seen “great” Augmented Reality projects and is a big advocate of it. However, he appears less impressed by Virtual Reality and says that he has yet to see a wonderful Virtual Reality experience which he has felt is truly compelling. This news comes as previews for Sony’s PlayStation VR2 have arrived.
“As I think of the metaverse, there are early examples of it. Whether you look at Roblox, whether you look at the work that Fortnite and Epic Games are doing, it’s going to continue to become more and more immersive. I do believe it’s going to be gaming-led, I don’t believe that it has to have an element of VR. I actually believe that augmented reality is going to progress much further and much faster. I’m a much bigger proponent, in part because I’ve seen great AR experiences brought to the consumer. I haven’t yet seen that wonderful VR experience that I find compelling.”
