The hashtag #RipFortnite is trending on Twitter – with more than 30k tweets at the time of writing – as players protest against the current state of Epic’s free-to-play battle royale, Fortnite. Admittedly, quite a lot of these tweets are also asking what the tag is referring to, while some players are even using the same tag to defend the game.

According to ComicBook.com, there doesn’t appear to be a specific reason, other than the fact the game is apparently not what it used to be like. According to some disgruntled fans, it’s tied to the skill-based matchmaking – supposedly making the game less fun to play, and far more serious. Others, though, are complaining about the recent server issues the game has been suffering from because so many people around the globe are self-isolating.

Of course, Fortnite is not really dead. It’s far from it given the size of the player base and its accessibility across all modern devices. A lot of people who prefer other battle royale games are now also using the hashtag to poke fun at it, and as noted in one of the tweets above, the same players are likely to return to the game.
