Earlier today, a blog post was uploaded to the Japanese site for Bokumono – short for Bokujō Monogatari, the Japanese name for the Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons series. In the blog, producer Dai Takemura spoke about the reception of Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town, a game that’s been mired in complaints since its release in Japan last week.

In our own preview, we mentioned long loading times, uneven framerate, flat characters, and poor balancing – and some of these problems will be addressed in a mid-March patch, according to Takemura.

In his letter, Takemura thanks fans for their patience and their support, and apologises for the game not meeting their expectations. The immediate fixes coming in March are as follows (translation by Nintendo Enthusiast):

  • Shorten some of the loading time
  • A bug that makes the player freeze when connecting online
  • A bug that makes the player freeze after waking up the pet and leaving the house
  • A bug that makes the player freeze after taking out a fishing rod in the mines
  • Various fixes for other issues and bugs

Later patches and updates will include more long-term fixes for the game (translation/summary by Reddit user mirukushake):

  • Revising and adding dialogue
  • Improving maker system
  • Appropriate changes to things that reduce immersion
  • Game balance adjustments
  • Other ongoing bug fixes/improvements

Our preview may not have been particularly positive, but here’s hoping that these fixes can improve the game by the time our review is ready.

Are you heartened to see that the developers are fixing the game? Has this affected your plan to buy Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town? Let us know in the comments.
