If you’ve been harking after a virtual Asterix & Obelix experience, then the XXL series of titles would have seen you right. Now though the famous Gauls are looking to make a comeback as Microids unveils Asterix & Obelix: Slap them All! for release later this year.
Set to arrive in the fall of 2021 with release on Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch and PC, with full backwards compatibility on Xbox Series X|S and PS5, Asterix & Obelix Slap them All! is a brand new adventure featuring our daring duo.
Working as a 2D beat ’em up, Asterix & Obelix: Slap them All! will thrust players back into the universe created by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo, giving them the chance to prove their bravery like never before.
The teaser trailer for Slap them All! can be found below these words and we highly advise you give it a watch. It gives a little (and we really do mean little!) look at the 50 B.C. world.
If you’re ready to slap left and right before the sky falls on your head, then Asterix & Obelix: Slap them All! will be for you. Gaul is entirely occupied by the Romans and only one small village of indomitable Gauls still holds out against the invaders. It is here where you will play as Asterix & Obelix, setting sail to the most iconic places in the comic book series while battling Roman legionaries, pirates, brigands and even the dreaded Normans.
Mr Nutz Studio is in charge of developing Asterix and Obelix: Slap them All! and part of the brief if to ensure that this adventure is as respectful to the original material as possible. The developers have chosen to go with an artistic direction very close to the comic book where the characters, the scenery and also the animations are hand drawn – as you can see in the video, it’s a real tribute to the 2D animated classics and a style that will surely appeal to fans and retro gamers alike.
That style will fall out into the gameplay too, something which is promised to be pretty straight forward and holds no secrets, working the core beat’em up scene and then sprinkling in some local co-op!
We’ll be sure to keep you updated as to how Asterix & Obelix: Slap them All! progresses in the weeks and months. And once an Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch and PC release date is known, we’ll bring you it.
